Fans trust him with the characters, and Cullen says he's earned enough pop-culture cred over the years to let Bay or video-game directors know that a line of dialogue may not be something Optimus would say.

"I can hear Optimus fans saying, 'Hey. That's not Prime!' I'd probably suggest to someone, 'Maybe there'd be another word we could use that isn't so hostile or so threatening.' Always trying to maintain that level of dignity and integrity and honor that he has is very important to me, and it's not missed very often," Cullen says. "I'm very happy to say that over the years, Optimus has maintained a level of respect on his own, too, so it's a great working relationship."
